After enduring years of scrutiny over her body and sexuality, Billie Eilish is now opening up about her experiences as a woman.
In a recent interview for Variety’s The Power of Women issue, the 21-year-old artist discussed her attraction to women and her perception of herself as a woman.
Eilish revealed to the source that she has grappled with issues related to her appearance and identity because she has “never felt desired or desirable.” For years, she wore baggy clothing that concealed her figure for an extended period.
“To be honest with you, I’ve never felt like a woman. I’ve never felt desirable. I’ve never felt feminine,” Eilish confessed. “I have to convince myself that I’m, like, a pretty girl.”
The “Bad Guy” singer explained her preferred pronouns, stating, “I identify as ‘she/her’ and things like that, but I’ve never really felt like a girl.”
Despite winning Grammy awards, Eilish clarified that her complex feelings about her womanhood have led her to believe other women dislike her. “I’ve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,” she shared.
While Eilish disputes that notion, she acknowledges being “attracted to” other women. “I love [women] so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real,” she expressed.
“I have deep connections with women in my life, the friends in my life, the family in my life,” the singer-songwriter continued. “I’m physically attracted to them. But I’m also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.”
Although Eilish revealed to Variety that her relationship history and sexuality have been “weird and upsetting,” she has previously been private about her personal life due to intense scrutiny on these subjects.

“Nobody ever says a thing about men’s bodies. If you’re muscular, cool. If you’re not, cool. If you’re rail thin, cool. If you have a dad bod, cool. If you’re pudgy, love it! Everybody’s happy… pic.twitter.com/xaihWNyjE3
The singer and Jesse Rutherford of the alternative band The Neighbourhood were last romantically linked in October 2022. According to a source cited by PEOPLE, the two singers had parted ways in May after an eight-month relationship, remaining good friends.
Eilish previously dated actor Matthew Tyler Vorce for just over a year, from April 2021 to May 2022. In her Apple TV+ documentary, “Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry,” she also discussed dating and breaking up with Brandon Adams, a rapper named 7:AMP.
The “What Was I Made For?” singer has already expressed her dissatisfaction with how the media and audiences have approached her sexuality. In a 2021 interview with Elle, Eilish addressed online discussions about her dating past, style, and sexuality, questioning why such energy isn’t directed towards men. She emphasized her initial desire to make music without inviting attention to her personal life.
