Selena Gomez is set to take on the role of Linda Ronstadt in an upcoming biopic, as reported by Variety. The Only Murders in the Building star will be portraying the music legend in a film currently in pre-production, with notable producers including Ronstadt’s manager, John Boylan, and James Keach.
On Tuesday night, the pop singer and star of “Only Murders in the Building” hinted at her upcoming role by sharing a photo of Linda Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, “Simple Dreams,” on her Instagram story.
In another noteworthy casting development, Leonardo DiCaprio, Regina Hall, and Sean Penn are set to star together in an upcoming movie.
For those unfamiliar with Linda Ronstadt’s illustrious career, she is a revered figure in country, rock ‘n’ roll, and Latin music. Her albums in the 1970s, particularly Heart Like a Wheel and Simple Dreams, achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success. Ronstadt, a recipient of 11 Grammys, has been honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards by both the Recording Academy and the Latin Recording Academy.
Interestingly, both Linda Ronstadt and Selena Gomez share Mexican descent. The latter, known for her Golden Globe-nominated performance in Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building, serves as an executive producer and stars alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in the series.
